EXCERPT- Fall With Me

Someone—was it Melvin?—catcalled as Reece led me down the hall, and my cheeks flushed. “Okay, heman, I can walk all by my little self.”
He cast a look over his shoulder at me as he opened the office door. “I’m sure you can.”
Then he pulled me inside.
My gaze flipped to the roses—the roses!—but before I could say a word, he closed the door and my back was pressed against it, his hands planted on either side of my head and his face right in mine. Like right there, within kissing distance.
Wow.
“So, I was at my father’s place in New Jersey most of the day, and you know, he lives out near the Pine Barrens, so service is shit.”
I nodded even though I really wasn’t processing what he was saying as I was too busy staring at his mouth. Those lips, fuller on the bottom, drove me to distraction.
“I pull out of his driveway and I have all these messages from Dennis,” he continued, and I finally caught on to what he was talking about. “I honestly thought he was messing with me at first.”
I cringed. “He . . . um, he wasn’t.”
He shot me a bland look. “That much I figured out.” His hands slid on the door, stopping just shy of touching my shoulders. “What did he do to you?”
“What?” I blinked.
“What did that bastard do to make you throw a book through his windshield?”
Oh. Oh. My heart was now wiggling along with my stomach. “He really didn’t do anything. I just lost my cool. He wanted to talk to me, and I didn’t want to talk to him.”
“You don’t have to talk to him.”
“That’s what Dennis said, but I shouldn’t have damaged his car.”
A muscle flexed along his right jaw. “That’s true.” He shook his head. “Damn, Roxy, can’t say I’m surprised.”
My brows flew up. “You’re not?”
He laughed under his breath. “Babe, you’ve always had a hell of a temper on you.”
Ah, that was kind of true. “Is that a good thing or a bad thing?”
Reece cocked his head to the side. “A sexy thing, but vandalism and destruction of property doesn’t look good on you, sweets.”
“No. It doesn’t match my manicure.” I raised my hands, flashing him the blue nails.
He laughed again and then he sobered up, just like that. Cop Face was on, and yeah . . . the low coiling in my stomach told me I found Cop Face arousing. “You’re lucky. He could’ve pressed charges, and this conversation would be going in a whole different direction.”
My own half smile slipped off my face. “I know. It’s . . . I was just with Charlie, and he’s . . .” Unable to continue, I forced a casual shrug I didn’t feel. “What are you going to do with me?”
His lips parted as his chest rose with a deep breath, then his gaze dropped to my mouth, and his expression tightened. He looked . . . he looked hungry. “I have lots of ideas.”

Fuel the Fire - Excerpt #1 – Connor’s POV

A marble chess set rests on our bed between us. Charcoal and ivory kings, queens, rooks, bishops, knights, and pawns line each side in correct order, the pieces like battlements and soldiers in combat.

Playing with Rose always seems like warfare. We never bring out board games to pass time. We play with stakes, so the loss feels like a loss and the win feels like a win. We play to achieve something greater.

Tonight is no different. If our pieces are captured, we have to remove an article of clothing or tell a truth.

I plan to have her naked.

She plans to have me stripped bare in other..

MY THOUGHTS

I am a huge fan of Sci-fi paranormal. In this, her debut novel Kallie Ross does not dissapoint. I've read a lot of books but this one really surprised me. I had no idea what to expect when I was asked to read and review this novel. And this post is a long time coming, but I am so glad that I read this novel. Which is actually going to be a series! Eep!

You are first introduced to the heroine of the story of Ollie at her Texas home. Sex has just come back from a trip to Uraguay. Only to find that her social life has pretty much deteriorated while she was away. While trying to deal with everything and earthquake hits. Ollie along with 3 of her friends, Jesse, Mateo, and Alexis are suddenly no longer in Texas anymore. But, an entirely new underground world. Filled with so much mystery from the legendary "noor" to huge lizzard beasts, and scorpions that glow. Along with the tribe of people who live in this underground world hidden beaneath the surface.

Characters: What I loved most about them, was the fact that they were just your regular run of the mill kids. Dealing with "normal" kid stuff. Well I should say teen stuff because they are all in high school. At least Ollie, Alexis, and Mateo are. Keren and Gabriel, I assume if they had not grown up undergrownd they would have been in high school as well. And it was not like in some novels where the kids act older than they are so you forget how old they really are. They act the same way that any other group of kids who had fallen into a chasm, and stumbled into a mysterious underground world would act. They were curious, and all they wanted to do was get back home. Also another feature of this book that I enjoyed. I had read the entire book and not once did I question "where is the sex?" Do not get me wrong, I appreciate a good love story and some sexy time in a book. Ya'll know that I love me my romance novels. But this novel had the romance, but you did not need anymore than what was given. By the ending of the book all I wanted was book 2! Which I can not wait to read!

The Quarky, whitty, amusing banter going back and fourth between the characters. It felt so easy to read and did not feel forced. It was not like in some novels, where things are said for the sake of being said. It felt like these characters had known each other for years. You could tell that the author really took the time to develop these relationships.

Settings: I thought that the setting for this story was very unique. It made this story definitely stand out from others for me. I enjoyed the journey of watching the underground world unfold for Ollie and her friends.

Plot: A group of teens fall into this underground world due to an earthquake. It follows them meeting a group of people who live in this underground world. It follows Ollie's journey with her friends, as well as their guides Keren and Gabriel. What they go through and run into while they try to make it to the surface.

The question is what is this underground world? Who and what is this mysterious group of people living in this underground world? Nothing is what it seems, and how are Ollie and her group of friends connected to this world? Will they get back to the surface unharmed? This is my interpretation of the plot and some of the questions that ran through my head.

I absolutely LOVED this story, and can not wait to read book 2. GREAT JOB Ms. Kallie Ross. I give this story a 4.5 out of 5!

Taylor Swift Book Tag

Created by The Book Life, this is a fun and creative way to pair novels with Taylor Swift songs! And  who doesn't love a good T-Swift song? Ok maybe not everyone...haha. My good friend Kim over at Kimberlyfaye Reads tagged me. I am a HUGE fan of Taylor Swift, so I knew I had to take part in the this and it seemed like a lot of fun!

1. We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together: Pick a book (or book series) that you were pretty sure you were in love with, but then wanted to break up with.

Ugh Veronica Roth,  how I loved these books till I heard about the end.  I have not been able to get through this whole novel since.  There are things you just don't do in a series,  and now I am forever ruined.

**********************************************************************************************

2. Red: Pick a book with a Red cover.

I know that the cover isn't entirely red,  but I absolutely LOVE this book. It's one I think about often. Believing that even though the book has stopped,  the lives of these characters live on.  That their life is still moving forward even though we can't see it.

******************************************************************************************

3. The Best Day: Pick a book that makes you feel nostalgic.

I read this book in College, but while reading it I yearned for my younger days.  When life wasn't so complicated.  It reminded me of fun vacations with the family, and marching band practice in the fall during high school.

**********************************************************************************************

4. Love Song: Pick a book with forbidden love.

*spoler alert* What's more forbidden then the teacher/ student romance.  Now I know what your thinking and it's not like that.  I never thought that I wound ever read a book where that wouldn't freak me out. But, Ward did an excellent job at writing these characters and story. There is also so much more you get from the book than this forbidden relationship between Emma and Landon!

*********************************************************************************

5. I Knew You Were Trouble: Pick a book with a bad character you couldn't help but love.

Oh Ward, what started out as hate. It quickly turned to love, the more we got to know him. Tahereh Mafi did an absolute job writing his character. Ward shall hold a special place in my heart forever!

*************************************************************************************************

6. Innocent: (written b/c of Kanye West!) Pick a book that someone ruined for.
I had ruined the previous book for my older brother,  so when this one came out he made sure to return the favor.  Needless to say I was devistated when he told me.  Even though I knew it had to happen, I still love this book. A definite must read,  book and series.

*************************************************************************************************

7. Everything Has Changed: Pick a character from a book who goes through extensive character development.

In terms of character development, the first couple/ series that came to mind was this book. The way that Lily and Lo grow from the beginning of this book is amazing. Especially since their characters continue to grow even beyond this book. They have come such a long way since book one. Krista and Becca Ritchie did a phenominal job at writing these characters! This is a MUST READ series!

*************************************************************************************************

8. You Belong With Me: Pick your most anticipated book release.

Ahhhh! The release of this novel can not come soon enough!  I am in love with the relationship between Rose and Connor. Even though I love all the character's of this series and novel.  The mystery that is Connor Cobalt, I need more!  Krista and Becca Ritchie know how to write some amazing characters!

*************************************************************************************************

9. Forever And Always: Pick your favorite book couple.

Now, I wish that I could choose all of them. Since there are too many to have a favorite.  But when I said the question out loud Golden Boy Cade and Angry Girl Max, aside from Noah and Allie to pop in my heard.  Hence this being my pick. Cade was the first Cora boy I read and he hasn't left my heart since.

*************************************************************************************************

10. Come Back, Be Here: Pick the book you would least like to lend out, for fear of missing it too much.

RIDGEEEEE!!!! Sorry had a fan girl moment. I recently bought this book and fell in love with it. If it were to get ruined while being lent out to a friend I would be devastated. I have had to many bad experiences to lend this book out.

*********************************************************************************

11. Teardrops On My Guitar: A book that made me cry a lot.

Now there are lots of books that have made me cry a lot. However, I just watched the movie for the first time today. So it was fresh in my mind,  I did a lot of crying,  and I absolutely love this book! #Okay, okay

*************************************************************************************************

12. Shake It Off: A book I love so much I just shake off the haters

I remember reading this series in high school and just absolutely loving it. And it shall always hold a special place in my heart because of that. I still watch the movies from time to time and enjoy them.

*************************************************************************************************

13. Blank Space: My favorite autographed book.

This was another hard choice to make. I have so many books that I love autographed. This was one that I most recently read and just got autographed. Not to mention I just LOVE Cam and Avery! They are seriously the cutest!

*********************************************************************************

14. Welcome To New York: My favorite setting

When it comes to my favorite setting I love the beach! So having this novel set in the summer at the beach was my cup of tea. I have also always wanted to visit Nantucket, so this was a total no brainer.

*************************************************************************************************

15. Today Was A FairyTale: My favorite Retelling

What I am about to say might shock you all. But I have yet to read a re-telling. So my choice for this one is a title that is on my TBR list. I have heard amazing review about this book series, and can not wait to dig in!

*************************************************************************************************

Now that too FOREVER, but was so much fun! Especially since I am a big Taylor Swift fan!!! Please share your responses in the comments below. I look forward to reading and seeing them all!!

I just wanted to share with you my thoughts on this series!

********************************************************************************

When I first agreed to review this series I had no idea what to expect. I had never read any Karpov Kinrade books before this, and was going on pure instinct.  I'm so glad that I decided to read these books.

The story that Mrs. Karpov Kinrade told was definitely a unique one. I will warm though,  you must read the previous four novels. If you don't, nothing will make sense.

These stories are fast and interesting reads. Once you pick them up you won't want to put them down. I read though all five novels within a span of two days days. They are that attention grabbing.  This review is going to be a little different as in the sense, as in all the books together sort of make one book.

These stories are also told through multiple POV's, which is something that I love in books. Now don't get me wrong, I love books that are single POV's, but I also love getting in the heads of some of the other characters as well.

Book one starts out with you meeting our main lady Rose, a witch living with her coven. Some of the witches in her coven have been blessed with certain gifts. Like her best friend Ocean, she can control water, and her mother can read/ control other people's mind. But Rose has always felt sort of out of place. Her gift is not one that is common among witches. She can't have skin to skin contact with anyone with out the fear of taking the life out of them. Or so she thinks that's what happens. The people who touch her in any way usually  just become vegetables. She has no name for her gift, except that it has made her afraid to interact with anyone.  Except for her friends and family. Even memebers of her coven are afraid of her.

It isn't until one night when her coven gets attacked that she feels the need to be able to protect herself.  Without using her powers.  So her and Ocean  decide to sneak away from the coven and take self defense classes.

This is where she meets the very handsome shape shifter Derek, who is home because something has happened with his brother. However, neither one knows about the other's supernatural abilities.  But from the minute these two meet, their lives are turned upside. People are not who they think they are, loyalties are tested, and nothing is as it seems.

Their journey goes through all five books, I can't go into much detail without giving too much away. Since all five  books are connected and linked together. They follow who they meet, their problems with good fighting evil. As well as them growing into their powers and abilities.

I liked the story and the concept behind these books. I thought that they grabbed your attention from page one. It did get a little confusing at times, when certain plot lines got interwoven. However, it was easy to get back on track. The relationships between these characters reminded me of the X-men. It was like they all became all family unit.

I enjoyed all of the twists and turns, you never knew what was going to happen. Or if you thought you knew, it was never what you thought.  And my favorite parts were all the cool magical and paranormal elements that were part of this story. The attention to detail, was awesome. Having the characters so in touch with nature and the elements was one of my favorite aspects of these books.
I encourage you guys to go and check them out! :)
